Hildegard of Bingen Saves the World

"A human being is a vessel that God has built for himself and filled with his inspiration so that his works are perfected in it." -- Hildegard of Bingen, Letter to Elisabeth of Schonau, c. 1152

Hildegard of Bingen recorded her intricate visions in text, art, and music, which communicated emotion and philosophy across continents and centuries. -- "Women Will Save the World"

Hildegard is recognized in the ALP compilation, "Women Will Save the World," for demonstrating the world-saving characteristic of feminine intuition. She was born in 1098. She came from a large family and was dedicated to the Church, as was common practice at the time. She later became a nun and then head of the female members of the Benedictine monastery.

She experienced a vision of God, giving her a supreme and instantaneous understanding of religious texts. It was later verified by the Catholic Church as having divine origins and Hildegard was recognized by Rome as a religious authority at a time when women had very little influence. She wrote and performed Christian plays and continued to experience visions which enlightened her theology as well as her art.
